Shahrokh Bahrololumi is a filmmaker and film critic
who entered the field of cinematography at the age of 14, when he starred in "Ziyafat," a movie by Masuod
Kimiyai. He began to write for various film magazines
in Iran at a young age, and soon became one of the
most active young filmmakers and film critics in the
country. Bahrololumi received a degree in Dramatic
Literature from the Art and Architecture University in
Tehran. Since then, he has been Assistant Director
for several famous Iranian films such as "Soltan," "Mercedes," "Faryad," and "Eteraz." In 2001 he
directed his first film about war-ravaged children in
Afghanistan titled "The Neighbour's Son." In 2002 he
was the post-production director of "Swan Song" and "Tehran Nights." Bahrololumi has also worked in
television, producing and directing various series and
shows including a televised feature on the 22nd Fajr
Film Festival in Tehran. In 2003 he began a
documentary on the life of prominent Iranian poet,
novelist, critic, human rights activist, and former
President of PEN Canada Dr. Reza Baraheni; a project
that began in Iran, continuing in Turkey and ending in
Canada. In 2004 he directed the short film the "Tomb" about a torture victim coming to terms with his
torturer. His most recent short film, "The Season of
Soil" is collaboration with the director Bahman
Ghobadi who wrote the screen play. In addition,
Bahrololumi was the founder, Editor-in-Chief and
General Manager of www.persiafilm.com, the first
website dedicated to the documentation of Iranian film
history, film professionals and film news as well as
providing a comprehensive directory of Iranian cinema.
Bahrololumi is a permanent member of the Iranian Film
Critics Association and the Association of Iranian
Directors as well as a film critic with Shahrvand
Publications.
